It is amazing how our desire changes with time.
When we are small, we often wonder how things will be like if we are adults. We really want to be like them. We are sick of adults telling us “No, you can’t do that. You’re too small.” or “Sorry, you can’t get on the roller coaster because you are shorter than that line.” We hated when adults tells us that. How we wish at that point in time we are bigger, taller, more grown up.
Now when we are older, we wish to be like kids when we see them. Carefree, happy and just have fun. Now that we are burdened by the harsh realities of life, we look at kids longingly, wanting to be them.
Some may wish they are richer. But when they become rich, they may not be happy or satisfied with life and maybe wanting more.
It’s like we are not thankful of the moment, with the things we have, the loved ones among us. We often seem to chase our desires, be it materials, fame, wealth, careers and the list can go on. In our journey to fulfill our dreams, hopes, desire, we sacrifice a lot of things. Feelings might be hurt, health maybe taken for granted. Finally when we get what we truly dream of, are we thankful? Are we happy? If we are chasing fame, glory or wealth, do we love the person that we become now? Or do we wish that time can be turned back and we are what we are before?
Just a thought for this moment. I am not saying that we can’t chase our dreams. However, while doing so, just be content with the moment that you are living in now because life might not be the same the next moment. Be grateful of the luxury you have. Luxury meaning the things you have and most importantly the loved ones among you.
